Count Down to the Worlds

There is already a lot of excitement and interest in events for next year, leading up to the 2011 World Surf Kayak Championships, to be held in OBX, NC in the fall of 2011.

These events will be used as part of the selection process for the 2011 US East Surf Kayak Team, and we will be offering beginner, intermediate, and advanced categories at all events when possible.

The ESKA tentative plan for 2010 is as follows, dates TBD:

February 2010:
Jacksonville, Florida Event at Hannah Park

March 2010:
Charleston, South Carolina Event at Folly Beach

May 2010:
Topsail Island, North Carolina Event

September 2010:
The 2010 US National Surf Kayak Championships and Battle for Hatteras:
Once again the US National Surf Kayak Championships return to the east coast. With the World Championships occurring on the Outer Banks of North Carolina in fall of 2011, we plan on holding the 2010 Nationals in the same location, in order to test some systems, and do a bit of a “dress rehearsal” for the Worlds.

In addition, we will be running the much postponed Battle for Hatteras team event in conjunction with the 2010 US National Surf Kayak Championships. The Battle for Hatteras will feature teams of three (one HP kayak, one IC kayak, and one waveski) facing off against each other.

The 2010 National Surf Kayak Championships and Battle for Hatteras will occur over a four day period, likely in early September. Though this is a “US” event, we would like to extend the invitation to surf kayakers all over the world to come participate in the Nationals and the Battle for Hatteras.

October 2010:
Topsail Island, North Carolina Event

November 2010:
New Smyrna, Florida Event

There may be more events added to this list in the near future. Dates will be set in the coming months, and we will also have some other exciting news to announce soon.

We are also planning on holding 6-8 events during the 2011 lead up to the World Surf Kayak Championships.

More info soon. Check back at http://eskasurf.com

U.S WaveSki Nationals- Sebastian Inlet Oct 1,2,3.

The United States Waveski Surfing Championships are held yearly to determine the rankings of the best waveski surfers in the United States. The US Championships has competitors from all over the world trying to take home the coveted Open Championship Trophy. Last years 2008 Championship event held at the world famous “C” Street Break in Ventura, California saw Tony Cherry, from new Zealand, win the US Open!

Waveski surfing is a dynamic form of surfing where the rider is seated and strapped on a craft that resembles a surfboard with a seat and foot-straps. The riders paddle into and surf on waves as big as 12 to 15 feet strapped to a 7 to 9 foot board with a double sided paddle in hand. Waveski surfing is very similar to regular surfing except the wipeouts are bigger, more spectacular, and the maneuvers leave most new spectators wondering, “how did he do that.” Paddle surfing in one form or another is becoming one of the fastest growing watersports in the world and boasts an age demographic from 10 years old to 70+ years. The average age of most competitors is in their 30’s and most travel frequently to surf all over the world. For more info on Waveski Surfing go to http://uswaveski.com or to see video of Waveski Surfing, simply go to YouTube and type in “Waveski”.

Last years 2008 US Waveski Championships brought together the BEST waveskiers in the United States and abroad and produced some of the most extreme waveski surfing seen in the US in many years

Free Surf Kayak, Sir

Robert Taylor stopped by Savanna Canoe and Kayak to pick up his free composite Mega Surf Kayak. Robert won the striking red and black carbon Kevlar Merlin a while back when he entered Mega's 'name the boat' competition. Savannah Canoe and Kayak was glad to help with the shipping of the boat across the pond.
" I thought the name should start with an 'M', like Malcolm and Mega and that the boat looked wizard like with the very up swept bow" said Robert when asked how he came up with the name Merlin.
After Robert's kids jumped in the boat, dad tried it on and found it a perfect fit. We then headed out to the beach for a quick 'splash and slash'.
Coming from the hills of Tennessee, this is Roberts first surf specific kayak and he was very eager to see how different it handled the surf from his ww boat.
" We will be making more trips to Tybee and Folly in '09". said the elated prize winner.

What a great way to start the year...$2000 of super fantastic high performance surf boat compliments of Mr Mega. This is the second Mega surf boat give away SC& K has been involved with in the last few months.
A big thanks to Malcolm Mega for putting up continued incentives and great support for the paddle surfing scene. Rock on big daddy.
Valley, P&H...your up !.
